Forest Farming
США
Добавлен 24 июн 2013
We are forest farmers, university faculty, and agency personnel working together to provide useful and credible information to farmers who are interested in forest farming. Through expertise and collaboration, communities can enhance the value of their forest and agricultural landscapes. Integration of understory crops within the forest can help boost native plant populations and can provide an alternative source of income for landowners. The suite of non-timber forest products (NTFPs) is quite vast but is contingent upon regional climate and forest type. The videos posted on this channel are meant to provide detailed information on a variety of NTFPs, including their natural ecosystem, methods of propagation, and harvest times. Please visit our website, eXtension.org/forest_farming, for more information.

thank you! I just got a Solomon's Seal plant and it had already flowered. The flowers were dried up and fell before I replanted it. I'm a newbie so please forgive the possibly silly question: I can see each flower has a seed (seems like a seed) inside - can I use those to sow later? Or must the seed come from the berries? many thanks
The higher the alkaloid, I'd assume the more toxic.

Genesis 1:28 "God blessed them; and God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth, and subdue it; and rule over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the sky and over every living thing that moves on the earth.” JESUS wants us to be responsible stewards.
Thank you
Do you sell? How can I buy yours ?
Fry them up in bacon grease and add some fried potatoes, make a BLT put the ramps on it, Yummy
I just found a huge patch in our woods, all flowering. Once they flower and seed, do they die? How long do the plants live? Would you recomend collecting the seed and planting them, if so, should we plant them inside the alreasy established colony, or near it, or elswehere? Sorry for all the questions but we are trying to be good stewards and want this colony to thrive and stay.
Hi Melissa, so glad to hear you are working with these and being a wonderful steward! Goldenseal is perennial, and can take several years to get large enough to bloom and set seeds. If you already have a good patch, feel free to collect the very ripe seeds in summer and plant them fresh in a new places. You can also expand that patch or new patches by fresh seeds or root divisions, just make sure you plant the fresh seeds. Here is an extensive article about goldenseal (extension.psu.edu/goldenseal) and you are most welcome to reach out to Appalachian Forest Farmers Coalition, or join our Forest Farming Office Hours in person if you want. Don't worry, we LOVE great questions! - Sara
So you jest keep the bees working by attending to the queen?
Do you ship to the uk ? Thanks
Hi there, sorry, we don't sell or ship goldenseal, but you can try some US based herb or seed companies like Strictly Medicinals, Richters, or reach out to United Plant Savers.
Make sure when you plant find the dark moist soil. It makes it easy to grow. Especially by riverbeds or creeks.
Из какого растения здесь получают эфирное масло ?
Rest in peace Bob. Your teachings and enthusiasm for this plant is contagious to many. And will be for many more years to come.
What about steam curing?
Very interesting. But how can seeds be sold and shipped via mail order or online shops if they do not have to dry out?
Is the press hose made of silicone?
Can you dry them in an oven?
Nice description thanks
Hi. Is golden seal and turmeric same
Hi there, golden seal and tumeric are different plants, but both have yellow/gold colored roots. Golden seal is Hydrastis canadensis, and grows throughout eastern North America.
If they're farming it, why do they still market it as "wild" ginseng? Misleading

Hi Felipe, you might want to look for herbal medicines that contain goldenseal or ask a pharmacist. Unfortunately, goldenseal only grows in the Appalachian regions.
